The Lakelife fabric collection project lookbook!
A beloved cousin of mine got married a couple of years ago in Saranac Lake, in beautiful upstate New York, and my kids and I were so excited about what was going to be a big adventure to get to the wedding – a long red eye flight from Portland, OR to Albany, NY, then a 3 hour drive wayyyy upstate, where we'd spend a chaotic and fun few days at the wedding and surrounding celebrations with my whole family.
The day before we were going to leave on the trip I got a call from our babysitter, telling me she'd tested positive for covid. She'd been at our house all day the day before (with no covid symptoms), and I just didn't see how it would be possible for us not to test positive soon, too. So I had to make the tough decision to cancel our trip and miss the wedding. It was a huge disappointment, and of course we didn't even end up getting covid! Thank goodness, of course, but sheesh.
Anyway! What does a creative person do when things like this happen in life? Use if it for inspiration and creative fodder, of course!
The visuals in my mind when I think about Saranac Lake are nostalgic, cozy, and rustic – like retro summer camp + Pendleton blankets + old school Ivy League vibes + wild, serene nature all mixed together. This is what I tried to capture in my Lakelife collection, which is directly inspired by this whole adventure/non-adventure!
